Start of Editing

We wrapped up the tiny clips we still needed to film, and now it's time to start the real work of combining everything together! Olivia uploaded all the clips into Premiere Pro, but when she did, we realized the coloring changed and was off for every single clip. We couldn't figure out what was happening when the videos were uploaded to be making them so greyscale, but we decided to not pay attention to it now and come back to it and fix it after chopping everything up. I have never seen videos be professionally edited before, so this was definitely an experience. There was so many tools and buttons being pressed that it was hard to keep up. We had a lot of laughs, watching our cringey clips back. We knew we needed space for our titles and credits, so we extended some scenes with our pans of the set, or with the close up shots. We extracted the audio from the clips while chopping everything up so we could piece it together in a congruent, continuous way. I never knew that editing took so much time and attention to detail. I am so accustomed to my free Capcut app that I had no idea what possibilities came with an advanced editing system. It was fun to play around with the little effects like voice changers. We used one to actually enhance my voice in a clip. The way I said my line sounded weird, so we autotuned it to completely change my tone! We also put sound effects to enhance scenes with my car turning on, the suitcase rolling, and ambient noises for awkward close ups without audio.

Filming Day 2

We had our second round of filming this week. We shot all the clips we needed with Olivia's mom and also got a lot of extra clips, such as panning across the sets, or close-ups to be overlayed with audio from other clips, and even Oliva filming from inside my trunk a clip of me putting my suitcase into my car! Watching the footage back on the iPhone is honestly impressive. the quality is a lot better than I expected. The audio, however is a bit of a problem, but Olivia assures us that she can fix it in her editing software. We did come across an issue of running out of storage on her iPhone midway through filming. We knew that it was going to happen at some point but it was still a pain to try and solve. We had to spend a majority of our time clearing out clips we didn't need or even choosing apps to delete off her phone for the period of time we were filming. The worst scene to film was probably the one of my character saying goodbye to Nathalie's. We both kept forgetting our lines or just not being natural with it. It was obvious that there was no actual chemistry, haha!

Beginning of Filming

We had our first day of filming on Wednesday! Everything went smoothly and we got a lot of the crucial shots we needed. There was a scheduling conflict with Olivia's mom, so we will have to meet another day to film the scenes with her as well. It was kind of apparent that my acting skills weren't the best, and we had to retake scenes a bunch of times because I had an issue with not keeping a straight face. In a lot of the scenes, there was silent or awkward tension that would break me. I was scared that I was annoying my teammates, but they laughed along with me and assured me that it was okay. We had fun and it was ten times easier since we had all of our shots planned out. But, even with a plan, we agreed to go with the flow and do what felt best. This meant redoing shots in different angles and manners so we could go back on it and decide while editing. Olivia was terrific at making sure to keep up continuity in our shots, having us retake scenes in a specific manner so she could clip them together in the end seamlessly. This meant that in the scenes where I was folding a shirt, I had to end up folding it like 20 separate times for different takes!

Scheduling for Post-production

In this week, I have had to step away from the scene more to focus on my Aice global perspectives final. I explained to my teammates that I needed some time to prioritize my other class and they fully understood. They were so amazing and stepped up to take my place in the planning and set up for filming. I gave my support from the sidelines and still offered to call for a little in our group chat as they finalized plans. We decided that since not much more can be done for prep, we will start planning for after filming. We didn't set up specific dates but we made a timeline. First, Olivia will upload all of our clips from her iPhone to an editing software called Premier pro. We will all go through the clips together and choose our final takes, and then she will chop it all up, extending some clips for our titles. Since Nathalie and I don't have much knowledge of editing at all, we told Olivia that whatever she needed, help with, we were here to assist, but she assured us that she could do her thing.
